Anti-War Activists Commemorate the 10th Anniversary of the US Invasion of Afghanistan at #OccupyBoston

BOSTON/Dewey Square - About 40 activists from United for Justice with Peace and allied anti-war organizations held a standout yesterday in front of the #OccupyBoston encampment in Dewey Square to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the US invasion of Afghanistan. The organizers called for the immediate withdrawal of all troops from Afghanistan, and expressed solidarity with the broad aims of the #OccupyBoston movement.

Marilyn Levin, national co-coordinator of the United National Antiwar Coalition and an organizer of the event said, "It is significant that this rally to commemorate ten years of never-ending wars and occupations takes place at the site of Occupy Boston. OccupyBoston represents a new movement that is fed up with the military/industrial/financial rule of a tiny minority. It is not yet consciously an antiwar movement but it cannot help but make this elemental connection since militarization and austerity go hand in hand. War is the method of social control used by the elite to maintain their global dominance and profit-making."
