Unions Take to the Streets for Cambridge Labor Day March; Criticize Harvard and GE
Cambridge, Mass. - Over 500 union members and allies held a Labor Day March between Cambridge City Hall and the Cambridge Common via Harvard Yard on Monday. The event was organized by Service Employees International Union Local 615 and several other labor unions, together with area community and religious organizations.
The theme of the march was "Holding Us ALL Back from a Renewed Prosperity." Harvard University and General Electric were held up as examples of powerful private institutions acting in bad faith towards America's working families in a variety of ways - from exploiting tax breaks to, in Harvard's case, refusing to pay all of its workers living wages with benefits.
The march concluded with a rally on Cambridge Common featuring speeches from several labor, government and religious leaders.
