Author David Korten Asks: What Is The Meaning Of Wealth?
Jamaica Plain, MA - David Korten, author of the book, "When Corporations Rule the World," considered by many to be a must read for anyone interested in the contemporary rise in resistance to corporate power, spoke Sunday at the Jamaica Plain Forum.
Korten's current book, "Agenda for a New Economy: From Phantom Wealth to New Wealth," was written in response to the most recent economic meltdown.
Befitting his appearance at the Jamaica Plain Forum, founded by Chuck Collins of the Institute for Policy Studies and co-sponsored by The First Church, Unitarian Universalist, Korten blended his analysis of economic and social relationships with the perspective that how a person views God helps determine his or her outlook on competition and community.
Korten believes social, economic, and environmental salvation comes when people begin to realize that the current "kings and emperors" of economic power - such as multinational corporations - must be replaced by community based institutions.
The following OMB Audio clip is an excerpt from David Korten's Jamaica Plain Forum presentation on Sunday, April 5th. His appearance also was sponsored by Dollars and Sense Magazine, The Tellus Institute, The Progressive Project, Project Voice of the American Friends Service Committee, and YES! Magazine, of which Korten serves as Chairman of the Board.
