BOSTON/Roxbury - Over 50 Roxbury Community College students and community supporters held a protest against police brutality on Thursday in response to the beating of a 16 year old teenager by several Boston police officers on their campus on October 22nd. According to the police, the teen had escaped from a nearby junvenile detention facility and was resisting arrest. It is not yet known how the police knew the teen was on the RCC campus.

BOSTON/Roxbury - Over 80 people rallied on Cobden and Cardington Sts. on the Roxbury side of Egleston Square Sunday to demand that giant banks that own several properties in the neighborhood stop all post-foreclosure evictions immediately and sell the properties to residents that live there or to a non-profit willing and able to set up a resident's coop. The event was organized by the housing advocacy non-profit City Life/Vida Urbana and the Bank Tenants Association - an organization of residents in foreclosed properties.

BOSTON/Roxbury - Councilor Chuck Turner (G/R-District 7) rallied over 200 supporters at Roxbury Community College on Tuesday in the wake of an announcement by Ronald Wilburn, the only witness and the linchpin of the federal bribery case against Turner, that he would no longer cooperate with the government. The event focused on preparing attendees to expand Turner's community-based approach to his defense as legal proceedings against him continue.

BOSTON/Roxbury - Over 150 people participated in a "Community Unity Rally" to support the "No on Question 1" campaign this evening at Roxbury Community College. Speakers from several sponsoring organizations vowed to defeat the statewide referendum question - which would eliminate the Massachusetts state income tax by 2010 - saying it will cut over 40% or $13 billion from the state budget, including $158 million from Boston Public Schools. Rally sponsors included ACORN, Boston Tenant Coalition, Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative, Hyde Square Task Force, Jobs with Justice, Mass.
