BOSTON/State House - Over 1,000 teenagers and youth advocates from across Massachusetts marched from Copley Square to the State House on Thursday to lobby for more funding for youth jobs in the Fiscal Year 2012 Mass. state budget. Gov. Deval Patrick, several legislators and business leaders addressed the marchers at a rally in Gardiner Auditorium. Patrick called both for more funding for youth jobs in the upcoming budget and for the private sector to do its part to hire more young people - especially in the summer time when young people are out of school.
For the past decade, the United Teen Equality Center (UTEC) of Lowell has been changing – and sometimes even saving – the lives of the city’s youth, and they want you to know about it. In an effort to share their experiences at UTEC with the Boston community, dozens of the center’s teens will host the Lowell Connector Fundraiser Event on Tuesday, June 30 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Institute for Contemporary Art.

BOSTON/Government Center - Boston City Councilor Chuck Turner (G/R - District 7) held a hearing Tuesday afternoon at Boston City Hall to solicit public testimony on his proposed resolution to modify the Boston Police Department's Safe Homes Initiative that currently allows police to visit homes and ask parents to allow a warrantless search for guns their children are suspected of possessing. Over 40 people were in attendance - about a dozen of whom gave testimony ... the majority in favor of the resolution.
