Jamaica Plain Elected Representatives Discuss State of JP
BOSTON/Jamaica Plain - One of Boston's dozen or so distinct neighborhoods, Jamaica Plain (or JP for short) has one of the most outspoken and activist populations in the city. Hundreds of those residents interested in the past, present, and future of their community took part in a special meeting on Tuesday, February 15th at English High School and sponsored by the Jamaica Plain Forum and the JP Neighborhood Development Corporation.
Critically Exploring Science and Technology
UMass Boston now has a new program that explores the social, economic, and political dimensions of science and technology in our ever-changing world. So often we end up as the consumers of science and rarely are we encourage to question where do new drugs, technologies, or scientific knowledge come from. Offering both a masters and graduate certificate, the Science in a Changing World program seeks to connect those with scientific knowledge to communities of practice and change agents.
Small Rescues and Shelters are Not Underdogs at Fenway Bark
Jane Fulton, owner of Fenway Bark, has always had a soft spot for animals and has rescued eight animals, making them a part of her family throughout her life, and encourages others to do the same.
“Although I know there is no science behind it, I truly believe that my dogs understand that they were given a second chance,” says Fulton.
It was her passion for animals that collided with her love for travel and a hectic business travel schedule that inspired the creation of Fenway Bark, a one stop shop for the thoughtful, busy pet owner.
Iceland: Another Realm
Under a luminous full moon at midnight, my partner and I buy tickets for the shuttle bus from the airport to the Reykjavik central bus station. We pay 33 Euro for the two tickets and receive our change in Icelandic kroners, beautifully decorated paper money, including a 2,000 note with a woman in full frontal nudity. Annual Freedom Rally Celebrates 21st Birthday With Tributes To Decriminalization Laws And The Joys of Smoking Marijuana
BOSTON/Boston Common - The Massachusetts Cannabis Reform Coalition (MASSCANN) held it's annual celebration of "all things marijuana" this past Saturday, as thousands gathered on the Boston Common to smoke, listen to music and speeches, and rally support for the legalization of the drug.
Two people were arrested and charged with distributing pot and police issued slightly more than thirty citations for possession.
